who is looking after your child.

Two pediatric dentists own and run Bitesize, and they have done since January 2014. Both trained in pediatric dentistry at Mount Sinai. Here is where they studied, what they do, and who else is on the wall.

RH

Dr. Rafay Hussain

Pediatric dentist, Owner

Dr. Hussain has owned Bitesize since January 2014 and runs both the clinical and the administrative side of the practice. His focus is preventative care and education, and he is a firm believer that early intervention is what keeps a smile healthy and functional for life.

He works with parents as much as with children, so families leave knowing what to change at home rather than just what was done in the chair.

Dr. Malhotra has been a co-owner of Bitesize since January 2014, and has been an Attending at Mount Sinai Medical Center since July 2012, where he also helps train the next generation of dentists.

His pediatric residency at Mount Sinai included behavior guidance and pediatric sedation, which is exactly the training that matters when a child arrives anxious. He takes it at their pace.

[NEEDS: photographs of Dr. Hussain and Dr. Malhotra. No headshot of either dentist exists anywhere on the current site, and "who will be treating my child" is the first thing a parent wants to see. Two portraits would carry this page.]

[NEEDS: the orthodontist's name, credentials and photo. The site refers to "our orthodontist" throughout but never names them.]

[NEEDS: the hygienist and front desk roster. Patients name Anika and Dempsey Perez warmly in reviews, and a "Dr. Shuri" is thanked by name, none of whom appear anywhere on the site.]

specialists, not generalists

we are pediatric dentists.

Which means we underwent specialty training in caring for kids and teens. Everything in the Williamsburg office follows from that, from the height of the chairs to the screen on the ceiling to the fact that nobody is ever told off for crying.

meet the bitesize gang

and these eight also work here.

Each letter of our name is a character with a personality and a list of things they like. They hang in the waiting room, they are painted across the treatment rooms, and children usually pick a favorite before their coat is off.

Bitesize poster of Brave Biggie, the blue letter B monster

Brave Biggie

Biggie is super brave. He once tried spinach toothpaste and he does not even sleep with a nightlight. But even someone as brave as Biggie gets scared in new situations, just because he does not know what to expect. So he got ready for his first dentist visit: he read books about it, and he brought his trusty teddy bear sidekick along.

LikesBrushing away mouth monsters, comic books, superheroes
Bitesize poster of Inquisitive Izzy, the pink letter I monster

Inquisitive Izzy

Izzy is really curious and loves getting to the bottom of things. From figuring out the best kind of toothbrush to solving real mysteries, like the time the Tooth Fairy's wand went missing and turned out to be on the subway, Izzy is there to crack the smile case. She asks tons of questions and follows the clues.

LikesIncredible oral health, Harriet the Spy, mysteries
Bitesize poster of Thoughtful Tank, the yellow letter T monster

Thoughtful Tank

Tank might look very serious but she is really just lost in thought. She is constantly thinking of others, which is why she makes sure her younger siblings brush before bed every night and keeps the rest of the gang fully stocked with floss. The rest of the time she is at tap dancing lessons.

LikesTap dancing, volunteering, squeaky-clean teeth
Bitesize poster of Easygoing Eric, the orange red letter E monster

Easygoing Eric

Eric is a laidback guy who laughs, smiles and jokes around a lot. He does not take himself too seriously, but there is one thing he is serious about, and that is caring for his mouth. He brushes morning and night, flosses once a day and goes for checkups. That still leaves plenty of time for his standup comedy career.

LikesElectric toothbrushes, knock-knock jokes, beach vacations
Bitesize poster of Shy Sabrina, the purple letter S monster

Shy Sabrina

Sabrina is quiet, what you would call an introvert. She wants to be an author when she grows up, and practices by writing stories for the gang about a group of talking teeth who go on adventures. The school newspaper published a few, including The Incisors Take on Indiana and Molars in Morocco.

LikesStrawberry-flavored toothpaste, Shel Silverstein, her notebook
Bitesize poster of Imaginative Ivan, the orange letter I monster

Imaginative Ivan

Ivan is all about invention. He loves finding new, better and more fun ways to do things, which is rather like his buddies at Bitesize. Whether it is writing two-minute songs on his guitar to brush along to, or dreaming up gadgets that dentists will use in future, his imagination is always at work. This year: the world's first flossing robot.

LikesInventions, playing instruments, making oral health fun
Bitesize poster of Zippy Zelda, the grey letter Z monster

Zippy Zelda

Zelda is a real go-getter with a lot of energy. She plays tennis, she is on the debate team and she has hobbies galore, from origami zoo animals to the park. Even zooming from place to place, she carries a travel kit with a toothbrush, fluoride toothpaste and floss, so there is always time to get sparkling.

LikesZapping plaque, her day planner, sports
Bitesize poster of Enthusiastic Eddie, the green letter E monster

Enthusiastic Eddie

Eddie is enthusiastic about healthy teeth and gums, and about making sure his friends have them too. His pals cannot get away with eating sweets in front of him without brushing after, though they always thank him at their next cavity-free visit. He runs a club called the Enamel Enthusiasts. The secret password is "emu earmuffs" said three times fast.

LikesEncouraging his friends, fluoride treatments, holidays

[NEEDS: confirm whether the green E monster is Eddie or Edwin. The current bio uses both names for the same character.]
